Operating since January 2010, Maharajas’ Express is the newest feather in the grand cap of luxury trains in India. This pan Indian train promises to take guests on a legendary train cruise to the most prominent destinations of the country. Taj Mahal, the Khajuraho temples, wildlife environs of Ranthambore, and the holy bathing Ghats of Varanasi – Maharajas’ Express indeed presents a unique way of exploring the best of India.

Accommodation And Facilities On Board

14 carriages with 43 exquisitely finished cabins provides seating/sleeping capacity to 88 guests. Maharaja Express come equipped the world class facilities including the large LCD TVs, DVD players, in house direct dial phone, internet, live television, Medical assistance and electronic safe deposite box. All the cabins have their individual temperature controls and in suite bathroom as well.

Dining

There are two fine dining options housed within the Maharajas’ Express. 

  • Haveli restaurant - adorned like a grand Indian mansion, Indian delicacies are tastefully prepared and served in this restaurant.
  • Peacock restaurant - watch out for the peacock motifs in the décor throughout this eatery
  • The in house Bar serves a range of exotic drinks. The wood decorated interiors and the theme lighting will make your evenings special, after a tiring day of sightseeing.

The train also has an observation lounge called the Rajah Club with a private bar.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Mumbai - Vadodara

Embark on a regal journey aboard the Princely India tour of the Maharajas’ Express

In the evening you will check in and enjoy a warm welcome.

Proceed towards Vadodara, your first destination in the circuit. The charming city of Vadodara is the first destination that one arrives at.
A special sojourn through the city is scheduled for the following day.

Dinner and overnight stay onboard the train

 

Day 2: Vadodara

The attractions that you will visit on this day are the archeological sites of the Champaner – Pavagadh Archeological Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also visit Jami Masjid, Kewda Masjid, and Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum.
Lunch will be served at the Jambughoda Palace and high tea at the Laxmi Vilas Palace.
Return to the train for overnight stay and travel to Udaipur.

 

Day 3: Udaipur
The sightseeing tour will take you to the City Palace, Lake Pichola, Jagdish temple, and the markets of Udaipur that sell jewelry, wooden crafts, and paintings as well.
Lunch will be served for you in the Durbar Hall and dinner aboard the luxury train.

 

Day 4: Jodhpur

Post a leisurely breakfast, You will depart by surface to the enchanting realm of Rohet, a cultural destination in Rajasthan home to the Bishnoi tribe.  Lunch will be served at Rohet Garh. After lunch you can embark on an expedition to the Mehrangarh Fort, after paying quick visit to the Old Clock Tower market. Return to the train by evening for dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 5: Bikaner

Upon arrival to Bikaner, get a chance to visit Lalgarh Palace, the Junagarh fort, the Deshnoke temple as well as other wonders made of yellow sandstone. Complete your trip to the city by enjoying a sand dune excursion and in the evening, surrender yourself to the soulful music and dance performances by the Manganiars, the Kalbeliyas and the Langaas, especially arranged for you. Day 6: Jaipur

Day 7: Sawai Madhopur (Ranthambore National Park) - Agra
The Ranthambore National Park is where interesting wildlife activities can be captured. Enjoy an early morning jeep safari through the Ranthambore National Park. Post safari, savor on the brunch aboard the Maharajas’ Express while you will travel down to Fatehpur Sikri – UNESCO world Heritage site, your next destination. Later you will return to the train for dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 8: Fatehpur Sikri - Agra – Delhi
A lavish champagne breakfast atop the Taj Khema will accentuate the pleasures of your Taj tour. Later, you can return to the train for some leisure moments or visit the local markets for some handicrafts shopping.

Lunch will be served to you onboard the train as you will continue your journey towards Delhi. The lively sojourn across the princely states in India comes to its end with the train halting at the Safdarjung Railway Station by 1530 hrs. Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Delhi – Agra

A traditional welcome to board on the Maharaja’s Express at  the Safdarjung Railway Station. The Maharajas' Express is especially decked for you and the Royal India Tour is shortly about to commence.
A leisurely brunch later, you will arrive in the enchanting city of Agra and enjoy local sightseeing trip of Agra, which is home to the magnificent Agra Fort and Taj Mahal, both of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites
After you have explored the Taj Mahal, enjoy a high tea experience atop the Taj Khema and after you have enjoy a shopping jaunt, return to train for dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 2: Sawai Madhopur (Ranthambore National Park) - Jaipur

Savor on a thrilling game safari across the Ranthambore National Park in the morning On your arrival back in the train, you will be served a leisurely brunch while you will proceed towards Jaipur city tour of museums, Fort Amer, shopping arcades, jeep safaris and even an exhibition Elephant Polo Match. Post the exhibition match, dinner will be served in a private venue along with choicest wines.

 

Day 3: Bikaner

Arrive in the city while you enjoy a leisurely breakfast aboard the train. The noteworthy places to visit here are Lalgarh Palace, Junagarh Fort and the Deshnoke temple. Day 5: Udaipur

After a leisurely breakfast, embark on local sightseeing trails across the majestic Udaipur and visit the City Palace and the Durbar Hall. Visit the attractions housed within the City Palace such as Mor Chowk, Chini Mahal, and Zenana Mahal etc. Enjoy lunch in the Durbar hall. Day 6: Vadodara

Day 7: Mumbai

You will arrive in Mumbai at about 0830 hrs on the 7th day of the journey. After disembarkation, explore Mumbai for more sightseeing or return home, the decision is ultimately yours!

Itinerary

Day 1: Delhi - Agra

Arrive at the Safdarjung Railway Station to commence the Classical India sojourn aboard the Maharajas’ Express. Soon after the boarding formalities are over, you will be given a traditional Indian welcome and ushered to your cabins.

Very soon the train will chug its way out of the station and towards Agra

A leisurely brunch will be served onboard the train

Post lunch; visit the Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site

On your arrival in Agra, you will visit the architectural wonders of the city such as Taj Mahal and Agra Fort etc

A high tea experience atop the Taj Khema with sunset views to feast on will complete the first day of the journey for you

In the evening you can visit the city markets for some souvenir shopping

Return to the train for dinner and overnight stay

 

Day 2: Gwalior

Early morning on the 2nd day of the sojourn you will travel down to Gwalior

Post breakfast you will arrive in the medieval city that is mostly visited for its stately forts and palaces

Lunch will be served at the Usha Kiran Palace

Post-lunch you can visit the Gwalior Fort and the Jai Vilas Palace Museum

Day 3: Orchha – Khajuraho
